SAFEST CARS IN INDIA – SAFETY SHOULD BE YOUR PRIORITY !
When it comes to cars, India has seen a significant change in the market trend. There has been a surge of awareness in the buyers about safety off-lately and the fact that car manufacturers, especially Indian manufacturers are making safer cars is just the cherry on top.
So which are the top 5 safest cars in India, from which you should shortlist your pick?
Mahindra XUV 300 is currently the safest car in India as rated by the Global NCAP.
This sub-compact SUV scored 5 stars in adult protection (16.42/17) and 4 stars in child protection (37.44/49). This resulted in the car earning Global NCAP’s first-ever Safer Choice award
The W4 and W6 which are the entry-level variants come equipped with 2 airbags, ABS and EBD, rear disc brakes and Isofix child-seat mounts, along with other equipment like seat belt reminders that are now compulsory.
The W8 and W8 (O) which are the higher-spec variants get more safety like seven airbags, front parking sensors, front and rear fog lamps, Tyre pressure monitoring system, rear parking camera and electronic stability program.
The Mahindra XUV 300 has been priced from Rs. 8.3 lakhs for the W4 variant to Rs. 12.69 lakhs for the range-topping W8 (O) variant.
The latest addition to the plethora of premium hatchbacks, the Altroz ranks second on the list.
This premium hatchback from Tata has a full five-star rating for adult protection (16.13/17) and three stars for child protection, which is due to the child dummy’s head making contact with the interior trims during the crash test
Regardless of that, Altroz is currently the safest hatchback in the Indian market. Numerous safety features are standard across all the variants such as two airbags, ABS with EBD, rear parking sensors, seat belt reminders and Isofix child seat mounts. The add-ons in the higher variants include height-adjustable seat belts, rear parking camera and front and rear fog lamps.
The price range of the Altroz ranges from INR 5.29 Lakhs to Rs. 9.29 Lakhs in India.
The car that ranks third also comes from Tata’s stable, the Nexon. When crash tested for the first time, it scored four stars, after which Tata took it upon themselves and made changes to the structural integrity of the car. After which Tata sent it for 2nd round by upgrading it with seat belt reminders and finally it reaped the fruit of Five Stars.
This made the compact SUV India’s first-ever 5-star car. It secured 16.06 out of 17 in adult protection while 25 out of 49 in child protection giving in 3-stars in child protection. The standard safety equipment list consists of two airbags, Isofix child-seat mounts and ABS.
The model tested was the pre-facelift car and the facelift was upgraded to meet norms for pedestrian protection. The vast Tata Nexon range has been priced from Rs. 6.95 lakhs to Rs. 12.50 lakhs for the top-spec Diesel AMT.
The latest addition to the list of Safest Cars in India – THAR
As mentioned earlier, Indian manufacturers are leading the race when it comes to launching safe cars, hence putting the New Thar from Mahindra 4th in this list. This iconic offroader was amongst the most hyped launches of the year and it lived up to its hype even in the safety department by securing a smashing 4 stars in GNCAP crash tests.
From being an extremely unsafe car, it has now become one of the safest cars in India. This 4*4 secured 4-star in adult protection by gaining 12.52 points out of 17 while securing a 3-star rating in child protection by getting an impressive 41.1 points out of 49. This makes it the highest-scoring Indian car for child protection.
This lifestyle vehicle comes standard with safety features such as ABS and EBD with Brake Assist, Dual Airbags, Isofix for rear seats and Seat belt reminder. But the feature that unique to the new Thar is the chassis-mounted roll cage as it is susceptible to rollovers during offroading.
The 2020 Mahindra Thar is priced between Rs. 11.90 lakhs to Rs. 13.75 lakhs.
Ending this list is the Tata Tiago/Tigor, which makes it an all Indian car list, something to be proud of. This entry-level hatch from Tata scored an amazing 4 stars in Global NCAP, proving that safe doesn’t always mean expensive.
It managed to get a 4-star adult occupancy rating by scoring 12.52 out of 17 points. While in child occupancy it was scored 34.15 points out of 49 and was awarded 3 stars, getting marked down for the lack of Isofix mounts.
The price tag of new Tiago BS6, Rs. 4.70 lakhs- Rs. 6.74 lakhs, makes it the most affordable 4-star car in India. Tata Tigor BS6 is priced at Rs.5.39 lakhs- Rs. 7.49 lakhs.
So the above-mentioned cars are the Top 5 Safest cars in India and coincidentally are from Indian manufacturers. This just shows that foreign manufacturers need to improve safety in their products big time, and also shows that Indian manufacturers are committed to provide us with safer cars.
Kudos to these manufacturers for stepping-up the safety game in India. We hope to see many more additions to this list of safe cars, cause we believe in #SaferCarsForIndia !
