Launched in December 2019, the Nexon EV soon grabbed everyone’s attention for all right reasons. People even went ahead to call it the “Desi Model X”. It’s almost one year since Tata Nexon EV has been on sale in the Indian market and has got “full ijjat” from the market.

Nexon EV is definitely not the 1st EV from Tata Motors, neither is the 1st EV in the Market. Previously Mahindra too did try the EV market with the e2o and the e-Verito but they didn’t find many takers due to various factors.

However, it can be safe to say that Nexon EV is the 1st proper EV which can be used as a daily driver without worries and can compete against the likes of the newcomers from the Korean and Chinese markets.

Tata Motors made concerted efforts in the field of electric mobility long before the current high level of interest in electric vehicles began. For fleet customers, the Tigor EV is a common option.

The efforts to build an all-encompassing luxury, technology-laden SUV that was willing to break away from the prevalent apprehension common to car buyers was been demonstrated by the Nexon EV.

Let’s see what makes the Nexon EV such a stellar over its rivals. Here are 5 reasons.

The Package

The indigenously developed electric SUV packs in some amazing features making it a truly premium car. To name some, the Nexon EV comes with sunroof thou, not panoramic sunroof since that’s what is considered as premium by many. Accompanied by the plush and premium leatherette seats, make it a superior choice in the Electric vehicle segment. The Auto headlamps with ambient & tunnel detection and “Follow me Home” feature adds to the feeling of safety that does not compromise on style and comfort.

For those audiophiles, a state-of-the-art connected car feature-rich, 7” Harman infotainment system with one of the superior audio performance from a car of this range or segment. A 7” digital Instrument cluster that keeps you always informed. Oh! It also gets the activity key making you arrive in style always. The party tricks are quite a lot and ready to take you in for a “treat” at every. The car also benefits from a variety of tech-driven features that include the incredibly powerful electric motor, a Lithium-ion battery that assures long-range.

Priced between Rs 13.99 lakh to Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom all India), making it your ideal first electric car choice right now. While the XM variant of the Nexon EV starts at Rs 13.99 lakh (ex-showroom), the top-spec XZ+ LUX variant goes up to Rs 16.25 lakh (ex-showroom all India). This amazing all-embracing package will attract customers of ICE-powered vehicles in the Rs. 14 to 20 lakh bracket and scale up adoption in a relatively new segment.

Seamless charging

The Nexon EV provides comprehensive charging solutions for all its customers. The electric vehicle gets fast charging that takes only 60 minutes to charge from 0-80 percent using a CCS2 fast charger. Customers also get the added benefits of free home charger installation and 24×7 emergency charging support.

By partnering with TATA Power, TATA Motors gets the benefit of the largest public charging network in India that never lets you worry about your car’s charge, say bye-bye to range anxiety. Also offers an 8-year/1.60 lakh km warranty for the battery pack.

Safety

For some of us who care a bit-tad-too-much for safety, it’s good news for us and many others like us. The Nexon EV is based on the same platform of the regular Nexon. Translating to a boasting 5-star crash test result from Global-NCAP.

The electric SUV is equipped with safety equipment like dual airbags, ABS with EBD, corner stability control and sports a reinforced body structure to protect occupants during accidents. The car also has an IP67 compliant battery & Motor that allows the vehicle to confidently drive through flooded roads or extremely dusty conditions. Proving its reliability, the car has been rigorously tested across 1 million km across the toughest terrains in India, covering high altitudes, unpaved roads, steep gradients and under extreme weather conditions.

360-degree Approach

Tata Motors is working closely with other Tata Group companies, including Tata Power, Tata Chemicals, Tata Autocomp, Tata Motors Finance and Croma, to create an e-mobility ecosystem, Tata uniEVerse, in order to speed up the adoption of EVs in India. Consumers will have access to a suite of e-mobility deals, including charging solutions, creative retail experiences, and simple financing choices, driven by Tata universe or as Tata says uniEVerse. Tata Motors has partnered with Tata Power to provide end-to-end home and office charging and public charging solutions.

In addition to exploring active chemical manufacturing and battery recycling, Tata Motors is working with Tata Chemicals to manufacture lithium-ion battery cells in order to advance its’ Make in India’ mission. For the localization of battery pack assembly and motor assembly, the auto major also works with Tata Autocomp. The last piece of the solution includes the implementation by Tata Motors Finance of affordable financing options for the Nexon EV. Thus, Tata Motors, together with other companies in the Tata Group, is the only EV manufacturer to give the Indian customer a full end-to-end EV eco-system.

Smart Drivability with Futuristic Design

The car is a pleasure to drive and has two driving modes, Sport and Drive, on offer. The Sports mode allows for an intense transmission of power and in just 9.9 seconds, the Nexon EV can do 0-100 kmph. The architecture complements this intense efficiency. The unavailability of traction control makes the Nexon EV go all bonkers thus spinning its wheels like a fanatic beast (Ludicrous mode?).

The signature blue chrome highlights on the bumpers, the rising beltline and the EV badges are what set the Nexon EV apart. With its sporty central grille, detailed with the Tata Motors signature Tri-Arrows, the exterior boasts a bumper. The car also comes with a sleek design, spacious interiors and premium sound management on the inside to provide a quiet, peaceful drive.

Rivals

The Made in India beast surely does pack in a lot of features but the question being who are its rivals? The Koreans and Chinese with the Hyundai Kona EV and MG ZS EV. Although the duo has more features and range, it’s the price where Nexon beats them. Nexon EV has crossed the 1,000 units limit while its rivals are way behind.
