Hyundai is all set to launch the all-new Hyundai i20 2020. With the launch date nearing, the new i20 2020 has been spied once again arriving at a dealership across the country. The i20 has been spotted on several occasions across the country.

Spied in white color, the new i20 has its front and rear covered up. However, from the previous spy shots, we can see the rear features wrap-around LED taillights which is again expected to be joined by a thin strip of light. Upfront the design looks more grown-up and seems to be aggressive. – Car and Bike Reviews

Exterior

The vehicle spied at the dealership appears to be a Petrol manual and the top-of-the-line Asta variant. From the side profile, the vehicle can be seen wearing a new alloy wheel design which looks funky. Appears to be a set of 16-inch alloys, they surely come together and make the new i20 stand apart from the crowd. Electrically folding ORVMs (Outside Rear View Mirrors) along with integrated turn indicators can be seen. Use of chrome is in ample, from the front grill to the door handles.

What interests me is the smart integration of the fuel filler cap with the wrap-around taillamp. The cuts and crease on the side profile not only gives the Hyundai a character of its own but also sticks to the Hyundai family design.

Rear

On the rear, we do see that the vehicle is provided with park assist features like reverse parking sensors and a reverse parking camera. A rear wiper along with rear electric defogger, HMSL (High Mounted Stop Lamp) and shark fin antenna can be spotted. What is also visible is the placement of Asta badging on the lower right corner of the boot. What appears to be an integration of a spoiler design is provided on the corners of the rear windscreen. Overall the vehicle appears to have grown in terms of overall width and length.

Interior

Front row

The very first thing to catch our eyes is the large touch screen which may be of similar size display as seen on the Hyundai Creta and cars from Hyundai’s sister, i.e. Kia Motors.

The vehicle will boast of tons of connected car features with its Bluelink connectivity suite. Other cars from Hyundai’s portfolio such as the Creta, Verna, Tucson get these features. With Bluelink the owner can access a host of features such as Geofencing, AC controls, remote engine start and stop function, stolen vehicle tracking system, find my car, SatNav, vehicle health status, crash notifications and many more features.

Next up is the instrument cluster layout which is similar to the one that we have already seen on the Hyundai Verna. This is an all-digital unit which is of 10.67cm size.

Shift your attention to the dashboard layout and you will be reminded of Audi cars. Lower down the panel center panel is the AC control and many more which we will find out once the vehicle is launched officially. The provision of a center armrest is a welcome move along with the good old manual handbrake.

The steering is the same new unit derived from the other cars in the Hyundai stable with steering mounted controls. Hyundai is also providing the vehicle with Push-button start, auto IRVM thus literally leaving no stones unturned.

2nd Row

The rear bench though looks wide but will it accommodate three? We will find out once we have the vehicle with us. However, three seatbelts have been provided with the center belt being a lap over belt. A 12-volt charging socket and phone holder are provided along with rear AC vents.

Following the “new normal” protocol, the new i20 gets a Sunroof. This is not the first car in the segment to get a sunroof in the premium hatchback segment, the Jazz already received this recently.

Powertrains

As per a leaked document that surfaced online a few weeks back, the all-New Hyundai i20 boasts of a variety of engine and transmission options catering to a wide audience. A 1.2-liter Dual VVT NA petrol making 82bhp with a maximum achievable torque of 114Nm powering the front wheels with a 5 Speed Manual transmission as well as an IVT ( aka CVT) gearbox. This engine and gearbox option is spread over the Magna, Sportz, Asta, Asta (O).

NOTE:- 1.2-liter NA is also provided with a CVT transmission and isn’t offered on the Magna and Asta (O) variants.

The Diesel engine is a 1.5-liter CRDi pumping out 99bhp power and 240Nm torque. All this power is transmitted via a 6-speed manual transmission. It would be great if Hyundai did provide a variant with two pedals. Anyways, the 1.5-liter Diesel is provided on all variants except the Asta. An automatic Diesel premium hatchback is something that we have not seen in this segment.

Up next is the engine for enthusiasts, i.e.the T-GDi 1.0-liter turbocharged petrol engine mated to an iMT and DCT gearbox. Well, what would be appreciated is the inclusion of the proper three-pedal stick shift.

Irony of life !

Rivals

The Hyundai i20 will compete in the already aggressive premium hatchback segment against the likes of the Honda Jazz, the Suzuki Baleno, its rebadged cousin from another mother, i.e. the Toyota Glanza, decades-old Volkswagen Polo (with a new heart and a new sticker) and the new Gold Standard Tata Altroz.

Do you think the All-new Hyundai i20 (2020) will be able to dent the premium hatchback segment in the brand new avatar.
