With the festive season around the corner, Honda motors India has decided to launch a special edition to the Honda Amaze line up. Priced at a sum of INR 7 lakhs the Honda Amaze is based on the mid-level “S” trim. The new Amaze Special Edition packs a number of new and exciting features, and comes based on the S grade in MT and CVT version of both Petrol and Diesel models.

Why a special edition?

Carmakers launch a number of special edition models to attract customers during the festive season. Since it is considered very auspicious to buy a new vehicle in India during this period.

Mr. Rajest Goel, Sr. Vice President & Director, Marketing & Sales, Honda Cars India says, “We are extremely delighted to offer the Special Edition of Amaze ahead of the festive season. The Amaze S Grade is one of the highest-selling grades of the model. With the inclusion of smart new features in the Special Edition based on S Grade, the overall package has a freshness at a very attractive price. We are confident that this Special Edition will be well received by our customers for the enhanced value it offers.”

What is new?

The special edition costs just INR 12,000 more than that of the S trim. For that price, you get a 7-inch (17.7cm) Digipad 2.0 touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, unique seat covers, a sliding center armrest that is ergonomically positioned, body graphics on the doors, and a Special Edition badge over the regular S variant.

Engine

Mechanically the Amaze has the same 1.2-liter i-VTEC four-cylinder pumping out 90bhp and 110Nm torque figures. For the Diesel lovers, Honda provides the Amaze with a 1.5-liter four-cylinder i-DTEC making 100bhp power and 200Nm torque. Yes, it is both the power mills on offer are BS6 engines.

Both the engines are mated to a 5-speed Manual and a CVT transmission. However, the Diesel CVT sees a drop in power figures to 80bhp, 160Nm torque. But, the CVT transmission masks the turbo lag and makes the Amaze Diesel CVT a joy to drive.

Honda’s known to make one of the best petrol engines in the segment, so did they do with the Amaze’s 1.2-liter NA i-VTEC. But the Diesel engine although is the best yet from Honda. It still needs to be worked on due to the NVH levels compared to its rivals. Don’t get me wrong the Diesel clatter is not too loud to be a deal-breaker for Honda.

Safety

Honda Amaze hosts a bunch of safety features for you and your family traveling. The vehicle gets ABS, EBD, Seat belt warning, Speed alerts, Speed-Sensing auto-door-lock, impact sensing auto-door-lock, Dual SRS airbags, and more. Apart from this, the Amaze was also tested by Global NCAP for crash test and passed with a 4-star safety rating. The only other vehicle from this segment to get a 4-star safety rating from Global-NCAP rating is Tata Tigor.

Competition

The Amaze competes against the likes of Maruti Suzuki Dzire, Tata Tigor, Hyundai Aura, Ford Aspire. Among the competition, it is only Ford, Hyundai and Honda who are providing a Diesel powerplant in the segment.

Price

  • Petrol MT                    INR 7 lakhs (ex-showroom)
  • Petrol CVT                  INR 7.90 lakhs (ex-showroom)
  • Diesel Manual            INR 8.30 lakhs (ex-showroom)
  • Diesel CVT                  INR 9.10 lakhs (ex-showroom)

Last but not least I would like to congratulate Honda Cars India for successfully selling over 4 lakh Amaze in the span of 7 years of production with 2 generations.
