The Triumph Tiger 850 Sport – Lineage continues!

Triumph Motorcycles are known for their motorcycles in every segment, be it Super-Sports, Roadsters, Modern-Classics, or Adventure-Tourers. The Triumph Tiger has always been the pinnacle of adventure tourers. The Triumph Tiger has been in the market with many iterations before like the Triumph Tiger 800, Triumph Tiger 1200, and the latest entrant in the ADV segment, i.e. the Triumph Tiger 900.

Triumph is taking the adventure tourer to the next level by unveiling the all-new 2021 Triumph Tiger 850 Sport, which is feature-loaded, packed with power adventure tourer that can take over on any terrain.

THE DESIGN

The Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is designed to look like a very aggressive adventure styled motorcycle. It is more narrow over the width and the front end of the Tiger 850 Sport looks very light. The 20-liter fuel tank dominates the design and size along with the dynamics of the ADV. The motorcycle is designed on a new generation modular frame of the Triumph Tiger with bolt-on aluminum rear sub-frame and bolt-on pillion hangers.

The combination of the light frame with the lightweight triple engine, highly specified suspension and the design makes the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport, a very capable motorcycle. The narrow seating, optimized footrest position and angle adjustable handlebars make the motorcycle even more ergonomic and boost the rider’s confidence and make the motorcycle even more agile and easy to maneuver. The Triumph Tiger 850 Sport is also compatible with over 60 genuine Triumph accessories to make the most out of the machine.

THE ENGINE AND SUSPENSION

The Triumph Tiger 850 Sport features a 888 cc liquid-cooled, 12 valve, DOHC, inline-triple engine which produces a peak power of 84BHP and 85Nm of torque. The 1-3-2 firing order of the T-plane crank which is adapted from the Triumph Tiger 900 but is tuned to 850 triple improvises the connection between the rider and the rear wheel, which makes the Triumph Tiger 850 Sport more reactive and delivers supreme performance rather it be for commuting, touring or off-roading. This configuration of the triple engine on the T-plane gives the Tiger 850 Sport a unique sound and the combination of the 6-speed gearbox with multipoint sequential electronic fuel injection system also adds up to its linear power delivery with wet, multi-plate, slip & assist clutch system.

The 2021 Triumph Tiger 850 Sport also features a dedicated and highly specific premium Marzocchi Suspension with front 45mm Marzocchi upside down cartridge forks and a gas pressurised mono shock rear suspension unit with manually adjustable preload.

The motorcycle puts on offer 100/90-19 front tyre with twin 320mm floating discs Brembo Stylema 4 piston Monobloc calipers and 150/70R17 rear tyre with single 255mm disc Brembo single piston styling caliper and the reduced volume around the piston and brake pad reduces the space held by the brake fluid to increase the braking performance and the airflow is increased to cool the calipers.

 SPECIFICATIONS

The Triumph Tiger 850 Sport comes loaded with best in class features as standard which includes:

  • A 5” full TFT display which is high in contrast and brightness that helps in the visibility of the screen at all times and in any type of lighting and it also displays the key information to the rider very clearly.

The Triumph Tiger 850 Sport shall be reaching the Indian shores by the first quarter of 2021 just after the roadster-class Triumph Trident. It might be priced around INR 12 Lakhs ex-showroom.

It will compete against the likes of the BMW F 850GS and the Honda Africa Twin

I personally think that the Tiger 850 Sport will be a total value for money because Triumph has combined the best of the Tiger 900 in a 850 tune to make the Tiger 850 Sport exceptional.
